LOSS oil on canvas by Jan Alper
..........................

Often focusing on thJan's art deal with issues of the human condition, aging and the loss of physical beauty, Alpert works to find strong emotions through the use of layered colors, collages and powerful subjects to convey abstract reality. "Subject matter varies with my emotions or can just be an image brought to life through photographs taken by me," she said, "or just random thoughts that seem to find their way into my minds eye and call out for expression." She said working as a models agent and being surrounded by the young and beautiful pushed her into a direction the made her want to look below the surface in her oils.
Alpert graduated from Adelphi University with a bachelor's in art education and taught art in the New Jersey school system for a number of years. She also studied at the Summit Art Center with Phillip Sherrod and Sigmond Kozlow, the Art Students League and the Pratt Institute in New York City.
